It's raining again. I really need to get a rain jacket because this is just ridiculous. Why is it that people spell wrong ridiculous so often? I don't claim to be a master speller, but I've noticed that it is spelled wrong fairly frequently.
I think that we're going to play balderdash in English today. A rainy Friday afternoon just before a long weekend--they're going to have short attention spans. Part of me is like, well then we should work hard the whole period because they should learn to have longer attention spans. But then I don't feel like competing for their attention for 80 minutes. Don't worry, we'll do educational stuff, too. I remember playing balderdash in English class at Unity. Andrew De Young always won. Because he's good at those kinds of things.
I made an assignment to bring the lyrics to a song (and a recording, if they had it) to class so that we could analyze them the other day. I played a song by The Shins for them. They didn't like it very much. Strange. Sometimes I forget about the gap between me and them. I figure that if I like something, they should, too. But they're of a different generation. And they probably haven't grown into other kinds of music yet, either. It was strange experience.

ha. I know exactly what you're saying. Back in NY Mary (this is when my landlady was staying over during track season) let Paige (a 12-yr old from across the street) stay at the house one night. So Mary goes to bed, and I'm left alone to entertain a 12 year old. Strange. The radio was on, so I say "how about some music. let's see, let's see, ok, do you like the Cranberries?" She gave me the blankest of stares. Oh right, I thought, she's 12. "ok, how about Bob Dylan?" Blank stare. "I like Pink Floyd, do you have Pink Floyd?" Sure I had Pink Floyd, but how do you know them? "My dad listens to them, he's got these posters up in the attic" So we listened to Dark Side Of The Moon.
I forget we're old. We're grownups.
lol...who are the Shins???
I, too, can relate. I brought a couple of my cds to camp this past summer. No one liked Xavier Rudd. I was even mocked by this petite, eight year old, irish dancing girl for listening to this music. She started mimicing him sing.
Do you think its that we are old or that we have alternative music tastes?
