I found this cool website today--run by the Canadian government, I think--where there are a bunch of aboriginal people telling their stories. There's a recorded voice speaking, and then a transcript of what they say. Especially cool since we're studying aboriginal people in Humanities right now. http://cado.ayn.ca/index.asp if you want to check it out. The only thing is that I have to figure out how to show it to my class. The students can't access the Internet at school right now (our filters weren't working well enough to keep stuff out that you shouldn't be able to access at a school), and my computer is in my office--I can't have all 20 some students in my Hum classes crowding into my office. The head computer in the computer lab is hooked up to a projector, but it doesn't have sound. Any suggestions, you tech savvy people? I'm thinking burning the recording onto a CD, and then copy/pasting the words into a document so that I can hand them out. Would the burning thing work? Scott? Jack?
I told one of my Hum classes today that they may not make generalizations about Americans unless they know someone who fits the description of the generalization that they're making. I'm sick of the anti-American stuff that goes on here. Now, I am by no means a great supporter of the U.S.A, but the people I have run into here seem to have a hard time separating the people from the government. So they say, all Americans are fat. I've heard that one the most, I think. True, obesity is a problem in the states, but there are many people there who are not fat. The no generalizations rule applies also to the aboriginal people that we've been talking about. Sometimes I don't know where they get the stuff they spout. Parents?
