teacher

I seem to have become one of those things (a teacher). Magically. I spent the past two days with my new teacher buddies. We had a staff retreat at Manning Park. It's located in the Cascade mountains. The trip brought back a lot of memories because my family camped there almost every summer when I was a kid. A bunch of us went up to some alpine meadows--it's above the tree line, so in June and July it's absolutely gorgeous with wildflowers. You may only walk on the paths up there because the ecosystem is so fragile that you will destroy years of growth if you happen to step on a flower. So we were walking, and it was raining a little, and then suddenly it started snowing. In August! So we decided it might be better to go down the mountain a little. It was a nice time. I met a lot of new people--don't remember most of their names. About five of them knew my dad, had him as a teacher, or have worked with him before. But it seems like it will be a good group of people to work with. The staff is very young and seem very committed and excited about education. Oh yeah, and there was a pub in the lodge where we stayed, so we all went out for a beer together last night. Only in Canada!

I've been browsing other people's blogs, and have found links to my blog on theirs. That warms the cockles of my heart. I think that I shall follow suit.

It's been raining here since Sunday. It's a nice, west coast rain. Gentle. I like it.

Tomorrow we start the staff meetings, and then next Tuesday school starts. This time it's for real.

Hey, It sounds like you are having an awesome time. I miss the Cascades terribly. They are one of my favorite things about the west coast. I wish that I could hug them...

Hi Julie! I'm at Fraser Valley Christina Highschool in Surrey, B.C. for the first half, then MOC middle school in Alton for the second half. In B.C. I'm teaching English 11, mostly. How's it going for you?
