My time with facebook has come and gone. I joined on Sunday because Scott said that he found my friend Sara Van who I lived with on there. That was cool. But the more I thought about it, the more the whole concept started to bother me. It's a social network that seems to thrive on shallow relationships. But I guess it also depends on how you use it.
So I quit.
And who am I to talk, regular blogger that I am.
Maybe I'll quit blogging, too.
But you have to wonder what's happening to communication in our world.

don't quit! everyone's quitting. its so boring when everyone quits. and writing becomes a bit self-fulfilling instead of actually purposeful... you know, purposeful for other people... ah whatever...
facebook sucks.
i think writing for yourself with no intent of anyone reading serves a much more honest (and useful) purpose than writing "hey, you're cool" on some stupid facebook page. blogging and facebook are ten times (i did the math) more self-serving than writing for yourself, because most people use it to be noticed, to draw attention, and to feel self-importance. and even if not the intent, that is still the idea behind it. the concept of writing whatever you want for other people to see makes everyone feel like a journalist, author, commentator, celebrity, and therefore, tends to make us all dumber. i'm getting dumber everyday. kudos to margo.
