It was snowing all day today. It started around 8:30 this morning and snowed right on up until 6:00 this evening. And then it started raining. As the temperature slowly rises, the snow melts, and what looked surely to be a snow day is no longer. I don't think there's even hope that it will freeze overnight and create icy road conditions, because it's supposed to be even warmer at 5:00 am tomorrow morning than it is right now. I had my hopes up for a little while there.
Scott is writing an essay on the Malthusian Trap right now. Do you know what the Malthusian Trap is? Neither did I until Scott had to write an essay on it. Basically, it says that a population grows exponentially, while it's food supply does not grow as fast. When a population and its food supply get out of balance, then there has to be some way to curb that population, either by preventative (abortion, contraceptives) or positive (famine, disease) measures. It's interesting but not entirely correct, since Europe's population has been increasing exponentially, but they don't have a food shortage, AND many developing countries, where there is a food shortage, have been producing more food than they have before.
We subscribed to the Vancouver newspaper this past week. It's kind of fun to open the door every morning to find a newspaper in the hallway. It also makes me feel more connected. And I've already brought a couple to school to use in my Humanities 9 class--and I'm planning on doing it again tomorrow. A good investment!
