one whistle

I walked to the meat/cheese deli/fruit and vegetable stand the other day to buy some chicken for the Ethiopian meal I was preparing, and was whistled at while a car with three twenty-something guys drove past. It sort of made me chuckle, and also made me think about how I've changed. There was a time when I would have been enraged (mind you, I did have to quell the impulse to exhibit a certain gesture) but now I just thought, "ah shucks." Don't know exactly what's changed me. Getting older (not that I'm that old) getting married, possibly. But for some reason, getting whistled at on the street is something to chuckle matronizingly about. That's cute, they think I'm hot. Or something like that.

Speaking of that walk, I think it brought my shin splints back. I took a few weeks off from running (due to sickness and busyness) and my shins were feeling better when I started running again this week, but after walking up the huge hill on our street, they're both hurting now. Sigh. Bring on the ice.

It's easter. Scott and I went on a "let's see where this road takes us" drive today and ended up at White Rock. It was pretty nice--not raining like here. We drove up a huge hill that made us feel like our car was going to flip backwards. Reminds me of when I was a kid and my family would go to White Rock, and we'd have to take a run at the big hills (sometimes we wouldn't make it and would have to back down.) Exciting stuff.

I have an interview this week on the phone with another school. If you want, you can pray that they'll offer me a position. If they don't, we'll have to consider other options for next year.
